Pictured: Scene of three-car crash on busy Wolverhampton road that caused road closure in both directions

A busy Wolverhampton road has been closed in both directions following a three-car collision this morning during rush hour.

Emergency services were called to the scene at Wellington Road at around 8.45am on Tuesday morning (April 15). The collision involved two moving cars and one parked car.

Crews from West Midlands Fire Service (WMFS) made the vehicles safe while West Midlands Police officers managed traffic control and vehicle recovery. 

Three people had freed themselves from the vehicles before emergency services arrived at the scene. One woman was injured but refused hospital admission and was treated by paramedics at the scene.

Motorists have been advised to allow extra time to travel this morning and consider other routes.  

A WMFS spokesperson said: "Shortly after 8.45am on Tuesday (15 April), we responded to Wellington Road, Bilston. A fire engine from Bilston responded, arriving within three minutes of being mobilised.

"This was a collision between two moving cars and one parked car. Three people had freed themselves from their vehicles before we arrived at the scene. 

"One person received a precautionary check from attending paramedics at the scene but was discharged. Two other people were uninjured.

"The scene and three vehicles were made safe by firefighters.

 "Duty of this incident was left with West Midlands Police, who were assisting with traffic management and recovery. We left the scene shortly before 9.30am."

A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We were called to reports of an RTC on Wellington Road in Bilston at 8.45am. An ambulance was sent to the scene where, on arrival, crews discovered three cars had been involved in a collision. There was one patient, a woman, who was treated for minor injuries but did not wish to go to hospital and so was given self-care advice and discharged at the scene." 

A West Midlands Police spokesperson added: "We were called to Wellington Road, Wolverhampton at 8.40am today after a collision. 

"Officers attended to support Ambulance and Fire Service colleagues.

"No one was seriously injured and enquiries are ongoing."
