Two men, 17 and 20, have been arrested after being stopped by police during a routine search in Fowler's Park, Wolverhampton, on Sunday.

The two men were stopped by West Midlands Police officers from the force's 'Operation Guardian' taskforce, who were on patrol in the area to watch for suspicious activity.

After spotting the two men, both attempted to leave the area but were stopped and searched by officers at the scene.

A crossbow, a knife and substances believed to be cannabis were recovered from the search, as well as an amount of Class A drugs.

Both men were arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs and possession of an offensive weapon.

The teenager was also arrested on suspicion of possession of Class B or C drugs and possession to endanger life.

Both men remain in police custody.

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: "Project Guardian has specialist taskforces based across the West Midlands, dedicated to tackling knife crime and youth violence.

"There is particular emphasis on reducing knife crime in under 25-year-olds, through a range of tactics from plain-clothed operations to high visibility patrols."
