Regulars of the Desi White Swan Pub on Holland Street, Dudley and the family of Laurie Byng, aged 34 including her sister Leanne Mason are trying to raise money for her.

She has been diagnosed with lung cancer which has spread to her spine and is having immunotherapy treatment on the NHS.

The courses of treatment are shrinking the tumour but it will cease to be funded in six months time and to fund it privately can cost up to £50,000 a year.

Leanne helped organise the day and cartoon characters like SpongeBob SquarePants made an appearance along with online influencers so their was plenty of fun along with the serious nature of the cause.

The White Swan Pub in Dudley, held a fundraising event for having a fundraising event for Laurie, a local lady with cancer that has been funded for her treatment for two years but has been told she must fund it herself going forward. It may cost around \u00a350,000 a year. The day had supercars on display, a bouncy castle etc. At the front is Laurie Byng 34, and her partner: Wayne Rogers and there 14 year old son: Kyeron Rogers (he is autistic and non verbal). Behind them is Laurie's friend and event organiser: Kim Garratt, and Laurie's brother and sister: Timothy Byng and Leanne Mason.

There was also a display of classic cars, a barbeque and musical entertainment.

Balraj Singh, who took over the pub in November and who knows Leanne and Laurie said the day boosted a gofundme campaign to help provide  the treatment which has already raised over £3,100 for the cause.

He said: "It was a fun day with aim of raising money and boosting the money already collected. It has been a tough time for Laurie and the family, including of course her son Kyeron who is just 14 and has non verbal  autism and Leanne, who was behind the gofundme page.

"We are a community pub and will try to do all we can to help the regulars and friends when they are in need as we did with Laurie.

Leanne said: "Laurie is so brave and has been through so much already the least we can do as family and friends is give something back to her and help her along if we do reach a situation where she has to fund her own treatment which looks likely."

Laurie said: "Thankfully this treatment has shrunk my cancer previously in my lung and kept everything at bay since, but in six months time unfortunately the NHS will not fund my Immunotherapy even though it's currently helping keep things at bay, all because of funding and licensing.

"Immunotherapy alone is roughly £2,700 for each cycle but that doesn't include all the other fees like doctors an nurses time etc.

"I would like to thank Balraj, all the staff who helped organise the event including Leanne of course and everyone who turned out, it really means a lot to me it is heart warming and meant so much to me."
