Dudley nursery worker charged with manslaughter of child as mother pays tribute to 'beautiful' son

A Dudley nursery worker has been charged with manslaughter of a 14-month-old child as his mother paid tribute to him today.

Masi Sibanda has spoken out for the first time following the tragic death of her one-year-old son Noah at Fairytales Nursery, which has since been closed. 

Noah Sibanda died following an incident at the nursery in Bourne Street on December 9, 2022.

Nursery worker Kimberley Cookson, aged 22, has today been charged with gross negligence manslaughter. 

Director and business owner Deborah Latewood, aged 54, has been charged with failing to comply with general duties under the Health and Safety at Work Act.

Fairytales Nursery Limited has been charged with corporate manslaughter and failing to comply with a duty under the Health and Safety at Work Act, and is no longer in operation. 

The defendants will appear before Dudley magistrates on May 13.

Noah's mother shared a heartfelt tribute to her son. It read: "Noah was a beautiful, happy and easy-going little boy and we miss him very much."

West Midlands Police has been working alongside the Crown Prosecution Service, Ofsted, and other agencies since baby Noah's death, and are continuing to support the family. 

Four other people who were also arrested as part of the investigation will face no further action.
