Footballers Ryan Stirk and Danny Johnson were greeted with the faces of smiling children when they attended Old Park Primary School in Wednesbury on Thursday (April 10) afternoon.

Pupils from Year 3 to Year 6 had the chance to find out more about the players on their visit during a question and answer session.

Youngsters also joined the footballers on the school's outdoor space for a fun-filled sport activity.

The visit marked the end of a six week-long programme delivered at the school called 'Joy of Moving', which has seen Year 5 pupils work with Walsall FC to learn more about living a healthy lifestyle.

Helen Westwood, PE lead and assistant headteacher at Old Park Primary explained: "We have had Walsall FC in every week for this term doing work on healthy eating and fitness.

"Today was their final session so there was the opportunity to have two Walsall players come in and meet [the pupils].

"They did a question and answer session - the children were really excited and full of questions. They wanted to know which Premier League player they had played against and their favourite player."

It was a particularly exciting day for Year 6 pupil and young Saddlers fan, Emily, who had the chance to get an autograph from the players which Mrs Westwood said had "made her whole week".

The 'Joy of Moving' programme was set up by food manufacturer Ferrero UK ten years ago in partnership with the English Football League.

It has helped more than 600,000 children in schools nationwide to move more through play.
