The M5 was brought to a standstill following two incidents on the motorway, including the discovery of a body on the road at 9.55am today.
Both the northbound and southbound stretches of the M5 between J3 Quinton and J2, Oldbury, were closed following the tragic discovery, with traffic quickly building to cause more than 50 minutes of delays.

However, in a separate incident on the northbound stretch of the M5, an additional road closure was put into place between Junction 2 and the M6 following a collision between two motorcyclists and a car.
Now, photos taken by the Express & Star have shown the extent of the road closure, which highway groups say will be in place for 'several further hours'.
Traffic

Drivers could be seen standing outside of their vehicles as they waited for traffic to ease on the M5, with a long line of vehicles being seen stretching down the mototway.
The road closure had been in place since 9.55am, with many people being forced to remain stationary for more than two hours.
Lorries, vans, cars and motorcycles were bought to a standstill due to the two incidents, with many people exiting their vehicles while waiting for traffic to ease.

The southbound stretch, between Junction 2, Oldbury and the M6, Junction 8, was released at around 2.46pm, with delays of 45 minutes remaining on approach.
In an update, National Highways West Midlands said: "The M5 has now REOPENED northbound between J2 (Oldbury) and M6 onJ8. The northbound carriageway remains closed between J3 (Quinton) and J2 for ongoing Police investigation works.
Incidents

The road closures were caused by two seperate incidents on the motorway, with one incident happening southbound, between Junction 2, Oldbury, and Junction 3, Quinton, and the other taking place northbound, leading from Junction 3 to the M6.
One of the incidents relates to a body that was discovered on the southbound road at around 9.55am, with pictures showing emergency services attending to the scene.
The second incident related to a collision between two motorcyclists and a car between Junction 3, Quinton, and the M6.
On the collision, a West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called at 9.55am to reports of a collision just after junction one of the M5 Northbound in West Bromwich and sent two ambulances, a paramedic officer, a MERIT trauma doctor and critical care paramedic to the scene.
"On arrival, crews found the motorcyclists, both men, requiring medical attention. Ambulance staff treated both patients for serious injuries.
"One man was conveyed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital and the second man was conveyed to Midlands Metropolitan University Hospital for further treatment."
It is unknown as of yet the circumstances surrounding the body found, however, emergency services have been approached for more information.
