West Midlands Police have said that they aren't treating the discovery of a body on the M5, between Quinton and Oldbury, as suspicious.

The update comes after a body was discovered by emergency services at around 10.05am on Thursday, leading to several hours of delays for motorists using the stretch of road.

The incident follows a crash that took place on the same stretch of road at around 10am on the same day, with the incident involving two vehicles and a motorcyclist. The rider was taken to hospital for injuries not believed to be life-threatening.

Now, police have said that the body that was discovered on the carriageway is not being treated as suspicious, adding that a file is being prepared for the coroner.

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: "The M5 has now reopened after two incidents earlier today, with both carriageways near Oldbury and Quinton opened to traffic by 3.30pm.

"It follows a collision involving two vehicles and a motorcyclist at about 10am with the rider being taken to hospital for injuries which are not believed to be life-changing.

"In a separate incident, a body found on the carriageway is not being treated as suspicious and we are preparing a file for the coroner."

The route was closed for several hours, with pictures from the scene showing road users standing outside of their vehicles waiting for traffic to clear.

All lanes of traffic on the M5 have now reopened following the incidents.
