12 of the Black Country's best Chinese restaurants following 'top takeaway' study

The study, by mobile and tech retailer Currys surveyed 2,000 UK residents to discover the nation’s favourite takeaway food. In the West Midlands, Chinese takeaway topped the list with over half (51 per cent) of those in this region putting this in their top three.

This was followed by Pizza with 47 per cent picking this takeaway type as one of their favourites in second place, and in third is Friday night British staple, fish and chips, which is a top three favourite in this region for 43 per cent.

When it came to how much people are spending per person per month on takeaways, the majority of those in the West Midlands (35 per cent) said they spend £11-£30 each month on average. This is a modest amount considering the majority (26 per cent) order a takeout at least once a week, but nearly 1 in 5 (18 per cent) admit to having takeout two to three times per week.   

The Black Country is filled with Chinese food-serving shops all over the region, and here are 12 of the best according to Google reviews. 

1. China Cooking - Wolverhampton 

Located on Dudley Street, China Cooking has a 4.5 out of five star rating from 88 reviews. 

Aimee Hamblin said: "I love it here, the gentleman cooking and serving is so nice and the food is genuinely amazing, possibly the best Chinese food I've ever eaten."

2. The Queens Cantonese Restaurant - Wolverhampton

Located on Queen Street, the Queens Cantonese Restaurant has a 4.6 out of five star rating from 518 reviews.

David Blurton said: "Fantastic Cantonese in Wolverhampton every time I have visited, the food and service is excellent. It does get busy but the food still arrives at the table fantastically cooked and without too much of a delay. Great choice on the menu, lots of different dishes to try. Good location for pre/after theatre shows."

3. Happy Garden - Wolverhampton

Located on Chapel Ash, Happy Garden Chinese Takeaway has a four out of five star rating from 107 reviews.

4. Oriental Harvest - Walsall 

Located on High Street in Bloxwich, Oriental Harvest has a 4.3 out of five star rating from 72 reviews.

Louise Parker said: "My partner and I have been ordering food from the Oriental Harvest, on a regular basis, for over 10 years. The service is always polite and friendly and the food has always been of a very good standard."

5. China Garden - Walsall 

Located on Leamore Lane, China Garden has a 3.9 out of five star rating from 118 reviews. 

Emski Nature said: "Very nice food, it came hot and the delivery was fast so I will order again,  thank you."

6. Spring Garden - Walsall 

Located on Park Road, Spring Garden has a 4.1 out of five star rating from 95 reviews. 

Adrian Athersmith said: "I had a delivery chicken in black bean sauce, sweet and sour Cantonese style, chicken chow mien and curry sauce. It was delivered in 45 minutes, best Chinese in Bloxwich. Superb."

7. Bowl & Buns - Dudley 

Located on New Street, Bowl & Buns has a 4.7 out of five star rating from 115 reviews. 

Asad Zaman said: "I had a dipped burger twice and both times the burger was very nice, crispy, succulent and very tasty indeed. 

"I thought I'd try the noodles which are prepared in front of you and, I tell you, I was not disappointed at all. I'll definitely be going back there."

Located on Stourbridge Road, Amy's Chinese Takeaway has a 4.4 out of five star rating from 110 reviews. 

Luke Moore said: "I ordered chicken curry, rice and chips. The chicken in the curry was proper chicken and not the rubber stuff that comes from some Chinese restaurants. Price was average but food was above average. I will return."
