Sir Keir spoke at a Downing Street reception for regional newspapers, attended by Express & Star editor Mark Drew and its special correspondent Mark Andrews.

The Prime Minister spoke of the importance of a local press and made a point of highlighting knife crime as an issue there it has made a difference.

He praised the "unbelievable bravery" of parents like Pooja Kanda, whose 16-year-old son Ronan was killed in a case of mistaken identity.

His teenage attackers struck him from behind as he walked home in Wolverhampton, using a zombie knife and ninja sword they had bought on the internet in the attack.
