Coseley Technology Primary school was due to open its doors to its first intake of pupils in September.

It is being created at the site of the former Coseley School, off Henne Drive in Coseley, following its closure in July 2017.

Shireland Collegiate Academy Trust, which is set to run the new primary, has however confirmed the project is on pause due to the collapse of construction company, ISG.

The London-based firm was in the middle of numerous government projects including work to prisons when it was announced in September last year that it had collapsed into administration in the UK.

A spokeswoman for Shireland Collegiate Academy Trust said: "Due to the collapse of ISG, the construction company working on the build of the new technology primary in Coseley, we have been instructed by the Department for Education that the project is paused.

"This will mean that the school will not be open in September 2025 as planned."

The trust - which runs a number of schools in the Black Country including Thorns Collegiate Academy in Brierley Hill and West Bromwich Collegiate Academy - previously said the new school would offer "state-of-the-art facilities".

This includes a forest school, immersive room featuring virtual reality and spaces for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities.

Dudley Council made the decision to close the former Coseley School due to dwindling numbers and poor performance.

When plans were first put forward to shut it in 2016, it was met with uproar from parents, with around 1,500 people signing a petition against its closure.

Parents also staged a protest outside Dudley Council House.
