Five charged with Walsall murder as victim, 22, named by police

Five men have been charged with the murder of a 22-year-old man in Walsall.

Mohammed Khan was stabbed on Bloxwich Road near Leamore at around 5.15pm on Monday (March 17).

He was taken to hospital but died just before midnight.

Five men, all from Walsall, have now been charged with his murder.

They include Zain Raja, aged 22 and from Bloxwich; Asad Iftakhar, aged 33 and from Walsall; Hassan Iftakhar, aged 33 and from Walsall; Amaan Khan, aged 21 and from Bloxwich; and Iftakhar Ahmed, aged 52 and from Walsall.

They have been remanded in custody to appear at Wolverhampton Magistrates Court this morning (Thursday, March 20).

A 21-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender has been bailed pending further enquiries.

Another man, aged 38, who was arrested on suspicion of murder has also been bailed with strict conditions pending further enquiries.

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: "We are continuing to offer support to the family of the man who died and we are keeping them updated on the investigation."

Section 60 police powers were put in place following the incident and were in effect until 8am on Wednesday, covering the whole of the Walsall borough.

The powers allow officers to stop and search people they suspect may have been involved in violence, or carrying weapons, without needing reasonable grounds.

Residents recalled hearing screams and seeing police cars and ambulances on the night of the stabbing.

Mum-of-one Grace Chambers said her nine-year-old daughter was "really scared" and described hearing "a lot of shouting".

West Midlands Police is continuing to appeal for anyone with information about the incident to get in touch via the Live Chat function on its website or by calling 101 and quoting log 4170 of March 17.
