Two men arrested in connection with vehicle theft in Birmingham

Two men were arrested following a car chase after police spotted that the vehicle had been stolen.

Officers from the West Midlands Police Op Skybridge team spotted the stolen Mercedes A Class on Belgrave Middleway and gave chase on Wednesday afternoon (March 12).

After a short pursuit, two men were seen abandoning the car and attempting to flee, but were caught after a short foot chase.

The two men, aged 30 and 23, were arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous driving, failing to stop, and possession of Class B and Class C drugs and remain in custody.

 A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "We arrested two men after we spotted a stolen car in Birmingham.

"Officers from our Proactive Crime Team, Op Skybridge, were alerted after a stolen Mercedes A Class was spotted on Belgrave Middleway.

"Following a pursuit, two men abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.

"After a short foot chase, two men aged 30 and 23 were arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous driving, failing to stop, and possession of Class B and Class C drugs.

"The two remain in custody. Op Skybridge officers continue to carry out proactive enforcement across Birmingham, where they target offenders and disrupt crime."
