Dudley Council may have secured nearly £4m from the government to boost town centres, support businesses and help people into work.

The council is set to net more than £3.9 million in extra UK Shared Prosperity Funding (UKSPF) from the government, subject to approval by the West Midlands Combined Authority at a board meeting next month.

The money will enable the continuation of business and employment support across the borough as well as assisting with community and town centre focused activity.

It forms part of the council’s Economic Regeneration Strategy (ERS) Action Plan for 2025-26, which cabinet will be asked to approve at a meeting next week.

A report on the strategy reveals more than £350 million in funding has been secured by the local authority and partners to fund regeneration programmes in the borough.

It will include the completion of the Dudley bus and tram interchange and the new Health Innovation campus, continued works on the Wednesbury to Brierley Hill Metro extension and improvements to Dudley Market.

Councillor Paul Bradley, deputy leader of the council said: “The ERS reaffirms our position as a council committed to making this borough an attractive place to live, work and visit.

“Despite the challenging financial climate we are working in, our officers have done a fantastic job working with partners in sourcing hundreds of millions of pounds in external funding.

“It will drive some really exciting projects in the coming 12 months which will deliver real improvements for our towns and our residents.”

The report will be discussed at the next meeting of the cabinet.

It takes place on Wednesday March 19 from 6pm in Committee Room 2 at Dudley Council House in Priory Road.

Members of the public are welcome to attend.
