The victim, aged in his 20s, was shot in Eastfield Grove just after 3.20pm on Tuesday (March 4) in what police believe was a targeted attack.

A second man has also been receiving hospital treatment for gunshot wounds, a West Midlands Police spokesperson said.

Officers acted on information and detained five men, aged between 19 and 48, from a car in Birmingham on Wednesday night.

They have been arrested on suspicion of murder and are in police custody for questioning.

Detective Superintendent Shaun Edwards, from the West Midlands Police major crime unit, said: "A young man has tragically lost his life and we've teams working round-the-clock to establish exactly what happened and why.

"This is a significant development in our investigation and we'd continue to ask anyone with information to contact us.”

Witnesses or those with mobile phone, doorbell or dashcam footage have been asked to contact the force via the Live Chat function on its website or by calling 101 and quoting 3288 of March 4.

Police have also set up a dedicated website where people can send videos, pictures and other information. The website can be found here: mipp.police.uk/operation/20HQ24A24-PO1

Residents living near the scene of the fatal shooting have spoken of feeling scared to leave their houses and "terrified" to let their children out on the street.

Some have called on the police, council and the Government for action, saying "something needs to be done".
