CrossCountry Trains informed passengers at Wolverhampton on Wednesday afternoon that due to the fault on the line between Wolverhampton and Birmingham New Street, the station will not be served by CrossCountry trains due to trains being unable to run on the line.

The train provider said that services would be diverted via Bescot Stadium and disruption was to be expected until the end of the day.

It also said that other train providers would be conveying passengers, including London Northwestern and West Midlands Railway.

A spokesman for CrossCountry Trains said: "Due to a fault with the signalling system between Wolverhampton and Birmingham New Street fewer trains are able to run on the line towards Birmingham New Street.

"Train services running through these stations will be diverted via Bescot Stadium. Wolverhampton will not be served. Disruption is expected until the end of the day.

"London Northwestern Railway are conveying passengers between Stafford and Birmingham New Street in both directions until further notice.

"West Midlands Railway are conveying passengers between Wolverhampton and Birmingham New Street in both directions until further notice."
