Man shot dead in Wolverhampton was 'victim of targeted attack'

A man shot dead in Wolverhampton is believed to have been the victim of a targeted attack, police have said.

The incident on Eastfield Grove on Tuesday afternoon left a man in his 20s with serious injuries, which he later died from.

West Midlands Police have also said that a second man was left injured and was receiving hospital treatment, while the scene has remained cordoned off while a major investigation has been underway for what the force has said it believes was a targeted attack.

The force has also asked for anyone with any information to get in touch as soon as possible.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "We are continuing our investigation after a man was shot dead in Wolverhampton yesterday.

"Throughout today we have had officers carrying out enquiries in the area around Eastfield Grove following the shooting, which happened just after 3.20pm yesterday.

"A man in his 20s was found at the scene with serious injuries yesterday, with a second man also receiving treatment in hospital today.

"A major investigation is now underway and our officers have been holding a cordon in the area while they carry out their enquiries.

"We appreciate that the location is very close to local schools and our officers and partners have been in regular contact with the school to offer support, advice and guidance.

"Detectives and local officers have been in the area this afternoon to speak with parents who may have witnessed part of yesterday’s events or may have been affected by the incident.

"Our investigation into the shooting is at a very early stage but we believe this to be a targeted attack.
