A man was arrested on suspicion of possessing a knife in Tipton.

The man was spotted on Thursday evening (February 27) by officers from West Midlands Police out on patrol on Upper Church Lane and asked to stop. He instead made off from the officers.

He was stopped and detained on Slater Road.

A 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a knife and possession of class C drugs and taken into custody, where he currently remains.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "A man has been arrested on suspicion of possessing a knife by officers on patrol in Tipton.

"Yesterday evening, officers were conducting their routine patrols when they spotted an off-road bike being ridden on Upper Church Lane. 

"The rider was asked to stop but made off from officers. However, he was detained nearby on Slater Road.

"A 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a knife and possession of class C drugs.

"He remains in custody for questioning.

"A knife and a quantity of cannabis were also recovered."
