Two 17-year-olds were sentenced to two years eight months at Wolverhampton Crown Court yesterday (Wednesday) for the brutal attack in Stourbridge in March 2022, when they were 14.
The mother told the Express & Star about the horrifying day she got the call no parent ever wants to receive about her 15-year-old son.
She said: "We did not know whether we would find him alive or dead. We were there before the police as his dad works round the corner in Stourbridge town centre."
The Ryemarket Shopping Centre was covered in blood from the victim and the attacker who had impaled himself on his own Samurai sword. Their victim had only gone to the shopping centre after school where his attackers travelled from Worcester with weapons and wearing padding ready for violence.
The mother said: "It was a horrific day. He had been stabbed six times and we did not know if he would survive. He was in intensive care for ages."

The scars of the attack still remain, the teenager, now 18, told the court: "I can no longer go out in public on my own. I suffer from anxiety. I do not like going out with my friends as I am always wary of my surroundings. I should be enjoying my life as a teenager but cannot because of what happened."
His mother said: "It has been a long three years and he is just getting back to being a normal teenager now and this case has dragged it all back up."
When police raided one of the boy's bedrooms he had 21 machetes and knives. Their victims mother was not surprised when one even apparently broke the law on the day of sentencing by smashing up his cell.
"His attackers have made it so difficult. They are horrible. He was totally innocent and they tried to blame him. They brought swords and hunting knives. And lied about it from start to finish."
She added: "I could not believe it when the police told me how long they got. They need to be locked up a lot longer for the safety of everyone.
"Hopefully my son can now get on being a normal teenager now."
