The incident took place shortly before 7.50pm last night - Thursday, February 20, on the M54 westbound, between junction three for Albrighton and Cosford, and junction four for Shifnal and Priorslee.
Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service sent three crews to the scene, where a van and a car had been involved in a crash.
An update from the fire service said one injured person had been left in the car of the ambulance service.
A spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said a woman had been taken to hospital for assessment, but her injuries were not believed to be serious.
She said: “We were called at 7.40pm on Thursday to a road traffic collision involving a car and a van on the M54 between junctions 3 and 4 in Stanton, Shifnal.
"One ambulance, a paramedic officer and the Midlands Air Ambulance Critical Care Car attended the scene.
"Upon arrival we found a woman who was the driver of a car. She was assessed and had sustained injuries not believed to be serious.
"She received treatment from ambulance staff at the scene before being conveyed to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital for further assessment. No further patients required treatment.”
A spokesman for West Mercia police confirmed parts of the road were shut while they attempted to deal with the incident.
They also added that a man had been arrested - although that was for a separate matter 'unrelated to the collision'.
A spokesman said: "Officers were called to a two-vehicle collision on M54 westbound, near to the slip road on junction 3, at around 7.40pm yesterday.
"Lane closures were in place while recovery was arranged for the vehicles involved. One woman was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
"A 39-year-old man was arrested in connection with a separate matter, unrelated to the collision."
The incident caused significant disruption on the route with traffic at a standstill while the emergency services worked to help those involved.
