David Buckler had pleaded guilty to exposure and not guilty to sexual assault to the incident in November last year, but was found guilty and sentenced at Birmingham Magistrates Court on Tuesday, January 21.

The court heard how on Wednesday, November 27 at around 3pm, Buckler approached a young girl outside the station in Birmingham City Centre and sexually assaulted her while walking with his trousers pulled down, exposing himself.

The 34-year-old, of no fixed address, was handed a six-month community order, to include 30 days rehabilitation order, fined £120 and ordered to pay court costs of £110, sign the sex offenders register for the next seven years and was handed the SHPO for five years.

The conditions of his SHPO include only entering a railway station if needs to travel and he has means to purchase a ticket for travel, not to touch or come into contact with women or girls except where contact might be necessary and not to lower clothing to expose himself in any public place.

Investigating officer Matt Kania said "Buckler behaved in a totally unacceptable manner, not only was it in broad daylight but at a time the station entrance was very busy.

"I would like to thank the victim and witnesses for supporting this investigation.

“We take all reports of sexual harassment and unwanted sexual behaviour seriously and will support victims throughout our investigations.

“If you experience or witness a sexual offence on the railway, I urge you to report it to 61016 in an emergency, always dial 999.”
