Kyla Hislop, a curator from Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust, is guest speaker at Sedgley Local History Society.

She will talk about the life of Woodsetton-born Abraham Darby, who went on to pioneer the mass-production of coke-smelted iron at his blast furnace in Coalbrookdale. His grandson, Abraham Darby III, continued the tradition when he built the world's first cast-iron bridge in 1779.

Darby senior is commemorated with an iron sculpture on the corner of Birmingham New Road and Tipton Road, Woodsetton, close to his birthplace.

Anyone is welcome to attend the meeting at  St. Andrew’s Church in Bilston Street, Sedgley, starting at 7.30pm. Admission is £2.
