Town Council sets its budget

Bridgnorth Town Council set its budget and spending plans for year 2025 / 2026 at  a council meeting last month, the mayor has said.

The town council discussed and agreed the spending and  budget which determines the level of Council Tax for its residents. 

Mayor, Councillor Ian Wellings, said: “The town council has been mindful of the impact to its  residents both financially and economically while preparing and setting its budget. This  has been a major challenge, partly due to uncertainties surrounding Shropshire  Council.” 

He said an increase of £20.82 per year (40p per week) for the average household has been  agreed (band D properties). 

He added that this 12.16 per cent increase enables the town council to continue  to provide its current range of services as well as prepare for future potential loss of  income from Shropshire Council and bolsters the next phase of the retaining wall  project. 

Bridgnorth Town Council will continue to deliver services such as the upkeep of the cemetery, allotments, the running of the market under the Town Hall, community events, street lights in some areas, CCTV, Christmas lights, youth engagement, upkeep of the town's public toilets as well as looking after the parks and outdoor spaces.

The Town Council will continue with its community engagement and support to Town  Partnerships, its civic events, its role as a consultee for planning within the parish area,  safeguarding its assets and historical buildings and offer signposting to its residents  and visitors.
