The M6 motorway was shut in both directions on Saturday, February 1, between Junction 10a at Essington (for the M54) and Junction 11 at Shareshill, due to a crash involving a motorcycle.

Emergency services rushed to the scene at around 10am, to reports of a single-vehicle collision involving a motorcycle between Junctions 10a and 11 northbound near the Hilton Services.

On arrival, Staffordshire Police officers discovered a motorcycle with two riders, a man and a woman, both in their 30s, who were involved in the crash.

Sadly, despite the efforts of medical teams, the man died at the scene.

The woman was later transported to hospital in a critical condition where she continues to receive treatment.

A Staffordshire Police spokesperson said: "We were called 10am yesterday (Saturday, February 1) to reports of a single-vehicle collision involving a motorbike between junctions 10 and 11 northbound near to Hilton Services.

The southbound stretch of the carriageway was cleared by 3pm, with the northbound carriageway reopening at around 4.25pm.
