£24m mental health hospital for older residents opening in Walsall this week

A state-of-the-art mental health hospital built at a cost of £24 million is poised to open its doors in Walsall this week.

The new purpose-built £24.3m facility on the site of the Dorothy Pattison Hospital in Alumwell will welcome its first patients on Wednesday (February 5) to provide high-quality inpatient care for older adults from the Black Country region diagnosed with dementia and functional mental health conditions.

The Black Country Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust said the investment represents the most significant upgrade to specialist mental health services for senior citizens in a generation.

Guests of the trust were given a tour of the premises at the official ribbon-cutting ceremony four months ago.
