His comments followed criticism that the former Reedswood Golf Course situated next to Reedswood Park was being earmarked for a new 1,100-place secondary school when existing school buildings were capable of making up the shortfall. There are also plans to develop a 300-place special school at a site yet to be identified.

But Bloxwich and Walsall MP Valerie Vaz has called on education bosses to take up an offer by Joseph Leckie Academy in Walstead Road West in Delves to create extra secondary places, and said closed classrooms at the old Sneyd Community School site in Vernon Way near New Invention should be considered for the extra special school places.

In response Walsall Council leader Garry Perry said: “We are working closely with the Department for Education (DFE) to identify locations for two new schools for Walsall. One will be a special school, the other will be a secondary school.
