Officers on patrol outside Erdington train station spotted a man at around 11.20am last Monday.
One of the officers, Sergeant Richard Fryer, tried to speak to the man, Mouhammad Diagne, but Diagne instantly made off.
The body-cam footage shows Sergeant Fryer cycling after him and shouting for him to stop, before Diagne eventually gave up on Dean Road, saying "Officer, I haven't done anything wrong."
He was searched and officers found a lock knife.
Mouhammad Diagne, aged 22, of Erdington, admitted possession of a knife when he appeared before city magistrates on Tuesday.
He will be sentenced in March.
