Food hygiene inspectors are out and about examining venues serving up meals and snacks across the the Black Country and Stafford

Premises are judged on 'hygienic food handling', 'cleanliness and condition of facilities and buildings' and 'management of food safety'.

The ratings provide insight into the hygiene standards of the restaurants and food venues at the time the visit takes place. 

Here's what each rating means:

  • Five is considered ‘very good' 

  • Four ‘good’ 

  • Three ‘generally satisfactory’ 

  • Two ‘some improvement necessary’ 

  • One ‘major improvement necessary’ and 

  • Zero ‘urgent improvement required’.

We'eve taken a look at the latest raings in which local venues have received the lowest rating of zero. There are currently 24 venues that have been issued with this mark signalling 'urgent improvement' is required. The inspections have taken place at different times, with some dating back to 2023 - with the ratings remaining in place currently.
