Child hit by car and left with 'potentially serious injuries' in Oldbury

A dual carriageway in Sandwell has been closed after a child was hit by a car.

Emergency services were called to Birchfield Lane in Oldbury at around 3.55pm on Thursday to reports of a collision between a car and a pedestrian. 

On arrival they found a young boy who was treated for injuries not thought to be life-threatening, before being taken to Midland Metropolitan University Hospital

The driver is said to have remained at the scene. 

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: "We've been called following a collision involving a car and a child in Birchfield Lane, Oldbury.

 "It happened at around 4pm and the child's injuries are not believed to be life-threatening."

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called to reports of a collision between a car and pedestrian on Birchfield Lane at 3.55pm, one ambulance and a paramedic officer attended the scene. 

"On arrival we discovered one patient, a boy, who was the pedestrian. 

"He was treated for potentially serious injuries before being taken to the Midland Metropolitan University Hospital."

Bus services towards Blackheath were diverted via Wolverhampton Road, Newbury Land and Throne Road.
