Emergency services were called to a serious collision involving a man on the southbound carriageway of the M42 between junctions 4 and 3A, near Birmingham, at 11.09pm on Sunday night.
Both West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) and West Midands Police attended the scene where they found the man, who had been hit by a car and was in a critical condition.
WMAS sent an ambulance, a paramedic officer, a specialist paramedic, a MERIT trauma team and a MARS doctor responded to the scene.
Despite their best efforts, nothing could be done to save him and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
A spokesperson for WMAS said: “When ambulance staff arrived, they found emergency service colleagues providing basic life support to a male pedestrian in a critical condition after reportedly being involved in a collision with a vehicle.
“The team of ambulance staff quickly commenced advanced life support. Sadly, despite everyone’s best efforts, nothing could be done to save the man, and he was confirmed deceased on scene a short time later.”
A West Midlands Police spokesperson added: " We were called last night (12 Jan) shortly after 11pm to the M42 between Junction 4 and Junction 3a after a man was hit by a car. The man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed. His death is not being treated as suspicious and will be referred to the Coroner."
