Fire caused damage to three-storey building over weekend

Emergency services rushed to the scene of Carters Green, West Bromwich, at around 10.20am on Saturday, January 11, to reports of a fire affecting a three-storey building on the road. 

Fire service personel arrived on the scene within two minutes of being mobilised, discovering the fire in the building that also housed a ground floor commercial property. 

Two fire engines and a 4x4 brigade response vehicle from West Bromwich and Tipton station responded to the blaze, with the fire being extinguished by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus.

A West Midlands Fire Service spokesperson said: "Shortly after 10.20am on Saturday 11 January, we responded to Carters Green, West Bromwich.

"Two fire engines and a 4x4 brigade response vehicle from West Bromwich and Tipton stations responded, the first arriving within two minutes of being mobilised.

"This was a fire on the second floor of a 3-storey brick-built property, with a commercial business operating on the ground floor."

The building also housed a ground floor commercial property, however, the business was not affected.

The spokesperson continued: "The fire was safely extinguished by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus. There was extensive smoke damage to affected room.

"Carters Green to the Albion roundabout was closed while we worked at the scene but reopened a short time later.

"Police colleagues were in attendance to assist with traffic management."

Fire service personel marked the scene as clear at 1.57pm the same day after confirming that no hotspots remain the building.
