Shopkeepers of the iconic Concord Market in Sedgley have said their final goodbyes as the shopping centre closed its doors for the last time in 48 years yesterday. (Saturday)
The announcement that the shopping centre would close was made by shopkeepers in December last year, with Concord Market bosses saying that there are a number of reasons for the building's closure.
Now, residents have said a final teary farewell.
Talking about the closure yesterday, Jessie Southan, who runs the oldest shop in the market, the Butterflies Cars and Gift Shack, said it was 'sad' that the market is closing, but also that it is 'lovely' that everyone is coming together.
Jessie, who has helped around the market since she was 13, said: "I was actually originally Saturday girl for Phil Walsh who sold t-shirts and jumpers. I'd actually catch a bus from school to come here and help out for some pocket money.
"It's very sad, it's very, very sad. But it's lovely to see that everyone is pulling together and helping where they can."
Since the announcement was made, the market's regulars have been paying final visits to their favourite stalls, often bringing farewell gifts of flowers and chocolates for the shopkeepers who have served them rain or shine.
