'Child Abuse Bill may have opposite effect - and cancelling at Elon Musk and Donald Trump's criticism won't move us forward' - star columnist Toby Neal warns
"Paedo Guy!" "Hitler!" The Musk-Starmer spat didn't quite descend to that level as they exchanged insults, but it was well on the way.
And if every one-liner by the X-man is going to be reported as if it is of international importance over the next four years, then panto season is going to be extended. Elon-gated, you might say.
Evidently one of the differences between modern Britain and modern America is the attitude to freedom of speech.
Musk really has used the term "pedo (American spelling) guy" in the past and when the chap on the receiving end - a British hero of the Thai cave rescue a few years ago - sued for libel an American court found in Musk's favour, accepting that it was just an insult and was not meant literally.
You can't imagine a British libel jury doing the same. In fact, if Musk had made his intemperate posts of the last few days in Britain, he would probably now be under arrest under the Starmer regime - the Prime Minister is a former Director of Public Prosecutions, you may be surprised to learn - and facing the justice meted out in this country to those who make moronic or offensive tweets. Two years in the clink would be my guess.
