Fire service rescues two people trapped in a suspected stolen car in Halesowen

West Midlands Roads alerted commuters about major traffic disruption this morning after two people became trapped inside a car, which had been in collision with three parked cars.

Motorists were warned of major traffic disruption this morning as West Midlands Police attended an incident in Halesowen.

West Midlands Roads issued an alert at 7.14am telling drivers to “allow extra time for your journey and consider alternative routes where possible - however the warning was updated at 7.55am to say that traffic had returned to normal.

They said that the police incident is on Stourbridge Road and that the road is closed between Lutley Mill road and Witley Avenue.

West Midlands Fire Service told the Express & Star that the the closures were due to two people being trapped in a vehicle that had been reported as stolen.

Officers at West Midlands Police have now updated that they have arrested three people following the incident in which a stolen car collided with multiple vehicles. An 18 year-old woman was taken to hospital where her injuries are being assessed.

A WMP spokesperson said: "An Audi A4 made off from police at just after 3.50am. The car then lost control and collided with a number of parked vehicles near the junction of Stourbridge Road and Fox Hollies Road.

"Two men, aged 20 and 18, along with a 18 year-old-woman, have been arrested on suspicion for burglary and driving offences. An 18-year-old woman remains in hospital and her injuries are being assessed. Anyone with information should get in touch via 101, or Live Chat on our website, quoting log 362 of 9 January."

West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed that three people had been taken to hospital following the collision, which it said involved two cars and a third stationary car at the junction of Stourbridge Road and Fox Hollies Drive at 3:55am. 

Three ambulances, two paramedic officers, a MERIT trauma doctor and critical care paramedic and Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) paramedics attended the scene.

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Fire Service said fire fighters had been called out by police due to two people being trapped inside a car, which had been in collision with three parked cars.

She also confirmed that the car had been reported as stolen and had left the scene with West Midlands Police.

The WMFS spokeswoman said: "We received a call at 4am from West Midlands Police, who were already in attendance on Stourbridge Road and requested our attendance due to a couple of people who were injured inside a vehicle and were unable to get out as they were trapped inside.

"Crews from Haden Cross, Brierley Hill and Stourbridge were dispatched to the incident, which involved a car in collision with three parked cars, with four casualties reported at the time of impact. 

"Two people have managed to extricate themselves, but a man and a woman were trapped by injuries and were released by fire crews at the scene.

"The car was reported as stolen and we left the scene at 5.30am in the hands of West Midlands Police". 

West Midlands Ambulance Service update

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “Upon arrival ambulance staff found four patients. 

"Firstly, two women who were passengers in the first car had sustained serious injuries which were not believed to be life-threatening.

“They received treatment at the scene before being conveyed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for further assessment.

“A third patient, a man from the first car was assessed and had sustained injuries not believed to be serious. 

"He received treatment at the scene before he being conveyed to Midland Metropolitan University Hospital for further assessment.

“A fourth man who was the driver of the second car was assessed and did not require treatment from ambulance staff. He received self care advice before being discharged at the scene.

“No further patients required treatment.”
