Fire crews tackle blaze at West Bromwich trading estate which spread to several vehicles

Crews from three fire stations were called into action to tackle a blaze which had broken out at a commercial garage in a trading estate.

Crews from West Bromwich, Smethwick and Ward End and an hydraulic platform from Oldbury were called to reports of a fire at the garage at Spon Land Trading Estate in West Bromwich, with the call coming at 8.26pm.

The crews discovered a fire at a unit containing car batteries which had spread to several cars inside the garage and tackled the blaze using breathing apparatus and two hose reels.

West Midlands Fire Service confirmed that while there were gas cylinders at the site, none were affected by the fire, and no casualties were reported at the scene.

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Fire Service said: "We were called to reports of a fire at a commercial garage at Spon Lane Trading Estate in West Bromwich at around 8.26pm.

"The fire was contained to lockers containing car batteries and gas cylinders and had spread to several vehicles inside the garage, but no cylinders were affected and no casualties were reported.

"Crews from West Bromwich, Smethwick and Ward End and a hydraulic platform from Oldbury attended the scene and used breathing apparatus and two hose reels to tackle the blaze."
