The West Midlands Fire Service (WMFS) was called to reports of a blaze on Phoenix Street at around 5pm today between Charles Street and Carden Close.

Eight crews were scrambled to the scene near the Black Country New Road where they are expected to remain throughout the evening. The area is made up of mostly industrial buildings.

A further update just after 6.30pm said good progress is being with extinguishing the fire, but advised nearby residents to still keep their windows and doors closed.

Road closures have been put in place in the immediate area.

A social media post by WMFS asked people to avoid the area and travel with caution.

It read: "We currently have eight crews in attendance at Phoenix Street in West Bromwich. Please travel with caution around the area."
