West Midlands Police's Project Guardian team, which aims to tackle youth violence and knife crime, seized an electric scooter from a suspect as it was allegedly found to be uninsured.

The rider apparently showed little regard for fellow road users as they weaved in and out of traffic and red lights. But when stopped the rider was also found to be uninsured.

E-scooters are classed as motor vehicles under the Road Traffic Act 1988, which means the rules that apply to motor vehicles, also apply to e-scooters including the need to have a licence and insurance.

In a post, police wrote: "A rude awakening for the driver of this electric scooter!

"After speeding past our unmarked unit, weaving between lanes and paying no regard to numerous red traffic lights we were able to stop the driver and report him.

"Scooter was also seized for no insurance."
