New figures lay bare rise in West Midlands pub closures

New Government figures have revealed that more than 50 pubs across the West Midlands closed their doors for good in 2024.

The official Government statistics around pubs in England and Wales have revealed that the number of pubs open in the region dropped by 53 to 3,904 in 2024.

Pubs such as The Olde Vic Ale House in Bilbrook, The Royal Oak in Willenhall, The Three Crowns in Dudley, the Pendulum in Pendeford and the Orbital in Cannock have all closed their doors over the last 12 months, with the region seeing the second highest number of closures behind only London.

The number of pubs in England and Wales dipped below 39,000 for the first time, with official Government statistics revealing that 412 pubs were demolished or converted for other uses over the year to December.

The data showed that the overall number of pubs in England and Wales, including those vacant and being offered to let, fell to 38,989.
