Parking fines issued by Walsall Council have earned the authority over £2.2million since the start of 2022.

This year alone, the council had collected nearly £600,000 up until the end of October.
The figures were revealed to the Local Democracy Reporting Service after a Freedom of Information request. Fines for on-street parking formed 84 per cent of the total issued by the council over the three-year period, leaving just 16 per cent for off-street parking penalty notices.
The highest earning location this year is Bridge Street, raking in £39,200, nearly twice as much as the second-highest earner, Lower Hall Lane.
A full list of the top 20 earning locations between January 1 and October 31 this year can be found below. The total amounts issued are listed at full price, without any early payment discounts or increases due to non-payment.

A spokesperson for Walsall Council said: “The council undertakes parking enforcement on the public highway to maintain road safety and reduce unnecessary traffic congestion caused by illegal parking.
“Regular enforcement of restricted parking bays such as blue badge, taxi and resident-only bays ensures that they are only used by the intended users and general parking bays are available to support the parking needs of local businesses and their customers.
"Income from enforcement activity is used to offset the significant cost of undertaking the necessary borough enforcement activity and maintaining the regulatory lining and signage.”
