Maverick Mutts, which is based in Walsall at the London Midland Railway Club Association, offered up the use of its swimming pool to West Midlands Police dogs for leisurely swims.

The dogs already benefit from the use of a hydrapool at the force's dog training centre to help with their mobility, joints and rehabilitation.

But access to the Walsall swimming pool has given them the opportunity to not only practice their doggy paddle, but the chance to have some serious downtime.

A police spokesman said:  "We'd like to say a big thank you to London Midland Railway Club Association and Maverick Mutts. The association has always been a great supporter of our dogs and the work they do.

"We give so much time, love and patience to our dogs and they are a credit to us. Police dogs are integral to the work we do in protecting the public and fighting crime. We couldn’t do this job without our four-legged heroes and they deserve some rest and relaxation in between shifts."
