Kevin Taylor, aged 51, was found unconscious in Lichfield Street, near to the Central Library, shortly before 5am on December 7, and despite the best efforts of emergency service responders was pronounced dead at the scene, prompting police to launch an investigation.

The inquest into his death was opened at the Black Country Coroner's Court in Oldbury on Thursday (December 19) and immediately adjourned in light of ongoing criminal proceedings in relation to the death.

Kejuan Malone, of Osprey Close, Birmingham, was arrested following Mr Taylor's death and later charged with manslaughter.

The 32-year-old appeared before Walsall Magistrates Court on December 10 and remanded in custody ahead of a trial at Wolverhampton Crown Court in January.

Mr Taylor died outside DeCode nightclub, which has since been handed a temporary suspension notice after Superintendent Pervez Mohammed, of Walsall Police, called for an urgent meeting to review its licence.
