Watch: Investigation underway as group of machete-wielding youths clash near West Bromwich shopping centre

Shocking footage shows violence erupting outside New Square shopping centre earlier this month as gangs of armed youths chased each other through busy roads.

The chaos was captured on video near Sandwell college in West Bromwich after a group of hooded youths clashed in the street in the middle of the day.

Officers from West Midlands Police were called to the incident which took place at around 1.30pm on December 6. 

Footage shows more than a dozen youths running amok in the middle of the town centre - two of them armed with large blades.

At one point, a young man appears to lunge towards another with a knife narrowly missing him as drivers are forced to suddenly halt.

One college security guard is seen running into shot as groups of people swarm the area near the King's Square shopping centre. 

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: "We're investigating following armed disorder near West Bromwich Ringway.

"A number of people were seen running through the streets with weapons at just before 1.30pm on Friday 6 December.

 "No-one is known to have been injured but we're working hard to identify those involved. We've been reviewing CCTV - alongside other enquiries - and we'll be looking to arrest whoever is found to have been carrying a weapon.

 "We know this would have been intimidating, and worrying, for others and our officers are continuing to conduct highly visible patrols in the area to provide reassurance.

A spokesperson for Sandwell College said the youths were not pupils of theirs.

A statement read: "We are aware of a recent incident in West Bromwich town centre. We can confirm that the individuals involved are not Sandwell College learners."
