Since opening at the start of November, Space Cafe has been providing a new day and night time venue in Wolverhampton city centre inside the former canteen of the Express & Star building on Castle Street.

The cafe is the first part of a redevelopment of the building by BAX Construction, with work still ongoing to create a wellbeing and personal development centre next door.

It has become a matchday venue for Wolves fans, but after a month of trading, both owners Ben Anslow and Siobhan Webley have said that their goals are to get more eyes on the venue as the opening period had been challenging.

Ben Anslow said: "To be fair, I'm not going to lie, the first month could have been better because of the footfall around Wolverhampton and we had opened as a cafe on purpose around now because of the Christmas shopping.

"It's been challenging, but things are looking up and we're busy getting a lot more awareness around the building and the cafe."

Siobhan Webley said: "What we're trying to build is a brand awareness and bring it back to the community, which is something that we're aiming to build for the whole cafe."

Both said that the aim was to make the cafe feel like home and provide a warm welcome and said that the vision for the place was to not just be a bar or cafe, but an all-purpose venue available for all.

Ben said: "I don't like working at my desk upstairs anymore and would much rather work downstairs because it feels warm and friendly.

"You can come down here and all the plugs have got USB C, plus the lighting is good and the staff are really welcoming.

"We do free hire for anyone who wants to come in, just as long as they do a minimum spend at the bar, and we're open for corporate events and presentations as we have the stage.

"We're both independent business owners and we know the struggles that people have, so if people want to come down here, we've got three or four different types of seating plans that people can utilise."

Siobhan said: "We've had very good feedback from people who have used this place as they've told us that they love it and have come here every single week.

"Even though it's been challenging, the fact that people have come here and spent their money, there's no words to describe that feeling that they're spending their hard earned money here."
