The former Stoneacre site next to the town’s Tesco Extra has been vacant for more than 18 months since the dealership moved to its current base at Astonfields Road.

Now a change of use application has come forward to change the site’s use to a hot food takeaway.

It has not been revealed what type of takeaway would open there if the plans were approved, but the proposed opening hours are expected to be 11am to 11pm seven days a week, a design and access statement submitted as part of the application to Stafford Borough Council said.

The statement added: “The car dealership that previously leased the site ceased trading at this location on 28 th February 2023. The application site has been unsuccessfully marketed under its current use class during this time and remains vacant.

“No alterations are proposed to the external hard surfacing. Having previously being used for the storage and sale of vehicles it is considered that the site provides ample provision for parking to support its use as a hot food takeaway.

“No external alteration of the existing building are proposed. It is considered that the change of use will ensure the continued economic viability of this commercial unit.”
