Man charged with shoplifting offence in Walsall

A man was arrested and charged with shoplifting after more than £80 worth of dog food and treats were stolen.

A man was arrested and charged with shoplifting after an incident which saw £80 worth of dog food and treats stolen from a store at a Walsall retail park.

Christopher Delaney was arrested following the theft from a store at Reedswood Retail Park on Saturday afternoon around 5.30pm.

The 41-year-old, of Attlee Road in Walsall, was remanded into custody and was scheduled to appear at Walsall Magistrates Court on Monday for a first hearing.

No details are yet available of Delaney's appearance at court.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "We have arrested and charged a man with a shoplifting offence after £80 worth of dog food and treats were stolen from a Walsall store.

"Christopher Delaney, aged 41, from Walsall, was remanded to appear before Walsall Magistrates Court this morning (Mon) for a first hearing.

"The arrest was made following a theft from a store at Reedswood Retail Park, on Reedswood Way, shortly before 5.30pm last Saturday (23 Nov).

"Shop thefts and shoplifting is a priority at Walsall LPA. We recently launched Op Marigold in a bid to tackle shoplifting across the Walsall borough.

"Good work taken place across the borough to combat shoplifting and our neighbourhood officers regularly work alongside businesses.

"A new Problem Solving Team is also now up and running tackling issues across Walsall LPA. This includes issues such shoplifting, anti-social behaviour and exploring civil intervention orders to prevent further offending and reduce crime in our communities.
