Bewdley's flood barriers erected as flooding persists across region

Today (Sunday) has seen widespread flooding across the region including Walsall, Stourbridge, Tipton, Brownhills, Dudley and West Bromwich. 

However, the River Severn in Bewdley is often the first to burst its banks to flooding and the town's flood defences were erected this afternoon.

Worcestershire has been hit hard with floods, train cancellations and several towns, including Tenbury Wells, submerged under a feet of water.

The Environment Agency tweeted: "Flood Alerts and Warnings remain in place across the Midlands as Storm Bert continues to bring heavy rain to parts of the UK.   

"River levels in the Midlands are expected to stay high over the next few days. Our field team has been out today deploying  our demountable flood barrier in #Bewdley."

The disruption to public transport continued this evening after a day of cancellations and delays. 

West Midlands Railway confirmed flooding in Walsall meant Birmingham to Walsall services were being cancelled.

West Midlands Railway posted at 5pm: "Flooding at Walsall Due to the flooding, trains running through the station face being delayed. Ticket acceptance with @nxwestmidlands between Birmingham and Walsall is in place."

The rain shows no sign of letting up with The Met Office warning the wet conditions will remain overnight.

The Met Office said: "Heavy rain and strong winds continue across central and southern parts of England and Wales."

Flood warnings remain across the region with emergency services warning motorists not to take any risks near water.
