It took place at Katie Fitzgerald's on Enville Street and featured over two hours of poets, authors and performers getting up on stage to display their work.

One of them was Laura Liptrot, who recently launched the first in a series of books she has written which she hopes will make it to the screen.

After publishing her first poetry book - 'I am Not a Padlock' in July, Laura has since gained her equity card with ambitions to be an actress and recently showcased her first novel, called Dreamcatchers and read from it on the night.

She said: "I have been working on this for around 20 years, it was inspired by Doctor Who when it came back but there are a lot of influences including Bridgerton, in fact almost everything I see.

"There are going to be 11 in the series so I am constantly editing and working on them. I have recently gained my Equity card and I always say when people ask that I am an actor.

"It has only been recently that I have concentrated on writing but it is nice to be able to do both and I hope eventually the book series will be filmed."

Another author and writing coach who appeared at the night was Worcestershire-based Austen Gower who has just released the fourth instalment in a series of crime novels.

Set in London, it is called An Invisible Murder and the former business analyst took to the stage to read from two of the chapters.

He said: "I have stepped down from the day job if you like and it gives me the time to concentrate on writing of which I have been quite prolific with two other series of books published other than the Daley and Whetstone crime stories.

"It is wonderful to be able to come here and perform on stage to people who are also on a journey of various stages in writing and appreciate what a difficult task it can be to get something published and read in front of an audience."
