Walsall hospital to be awarded £6m to deal with rise in demand
The trust which runs Walsall's hospital is set to be awarded £6m by NHS England to help it deal with the impact of increased numbers from the opening of a new facility in Smethwick and the pressure of winter.

Numbers admitted to Walsall Manor have increased as expected since the Midland Metropolitan University Hospital (MMU) took over accident and emergency services from Sandwell General Hospital and City Hospital in Birmingham last month.
A meeting of the integrated board of The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust (RWT) & Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust (WHT) Integrated Care Board (ICB) on Tuesday heard that at the end of last month, the total attendances at The Manor had increased beyond what they had planned for in a business case published before the new hospital's opening.
But group chief financial office Kevin Stringer said they had applied for £6m of funding from central government to ease 'capital expenditure pressure' and it had been approved, although not released.
