Bosses have revealed that an application to use Compulsory Purchase Order powers to take control of the eyesore land in the Moat Street and Villiers Street areas near Willenhall town centre has been confirmed following a public inquiry which came to an end in August.
The council said officers had now received a decision letter and were awaiting the confirmed order so that progress can be made on phase one of the scheme to remove derelict and disused buildings so that much-needed new homes can be built, along with plans to create a new area of open space.
Councillor Adrian Andrew, associate leader of Walsall Council, said: “I am delighted with the decision to grant compulsory purchase powers for Willenhall. We will now follow the statutory notification procedure to notify all parties, but this is a positive step forward in our transformative plans for Willenhall.”
