Alex Turner will appear at Walsall Magistrates Court on Thursday, two days after being arrested and charged with murder following the death of a man in Whitmore Reans in Wolverhampton on Friday.

Nicholas Cope was found in cardiac arrest on Newhampton Road East at around 6pm and died shortly after, with an investigation beginning soon after.

Officers from St Peters and Park Neighbourhood Team made the arrest on Tuesday morning and 31-year-old Turner was taken into custody where he currently remains.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "We've charged a 31-year-old man with murder after the death of a man in Whitmore Reans on Friday evening.

"Nicholas Cope, aged 48, sadly died after being found in cardiac arrest in Newhampton Road East at around 6pm.

"Investigators have been working to establish exactly what happened, and officers from our St Peters and Park Neighbourhood Team made an arrest in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

"Today Alex Turner was charged with murder. He remains in custody ahead of a hearing at Walsall Magistrates Court tomorrow."

Det Insp Nigel Box, who is leading the investigation, said: "Although this is a significant step forward in our enquiries, we are continuing to investigate the full circumstances of this tragic incident.

"We know Newhampton Road East is a busy road, and we'd ask any drivers who were in the area at about 6pm on Friday to take a look at their dashcam, as they may have footage which will assist the investigation.

"If you've got footage, or other information you believe will help enquiries, please contact investigators on 101 or Live Chat, quoting log 4215 of 8 November."
