Woman arrested on suspicion of theft after thousands of pounds of goods stolen in Walsall

A woman has been arrested on suspicion of carrying out nearly 20 thefts from shops in and around Walsall.

A 28-year-old woman was arrested in Aldridge on Tuesday on suspicion of carrying out 19 shoplifting thefts where more than £6,000 worth of goods were stolen at shops in the Walsall area.

The woman remains in custody while enquiries are carried out by West Midlands Police into the alleged thefts, which are said to have taken place between June 18 and October 15.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "We have arrested a woman on suspicion of carrying out 19 shoplifting thefts where more than £6,000 worth of goods were stolen at shops in the Walsall area.

"Officers from our Aldridge neighbourhood team made the arrest yesterday (Tues) and took a 28-year-old woman into custody where she remains as we carry out further enquiries.

"She has been arrested on suspicion of 19 shop thefts at shops in the Aldridge area between June 18 and October 15 this year.

"Shop thefts and shoplifting is a priority at Walsall LPA. We recently launched Op Marigold in a bid to tackle shoplifting across the Walsall borough.

"Good work has already taken place across the borough to combat shoplifting and our neighbourhood officers regularly work alongside businesses.

"A new Problem Solving Team is also now up and running tackling issues across Walsall LPA. 

"This includes issues such shoplifting, anti-social behaviour and exploring civil intervention orders to prevent further offending and reduce crime in our communities."
